(1) Provides leadership in the development and conduct of research programs to improve the health of the people of the United States and of other nations through international cooperation, research, and research training in the biomedical sciences; (2) supports international research and research training on current and emerging global health problems; (3) promotes the planning and conduct of NIH international programs by identifying scientific needs and opportunities in a global context, and by devising innovative mechanisms for trans-NIH and international cooperation; (4) generates data and concepts to help guide national and international policies related to global health, including analyses of social, ethical and economic considerations relating to health status and health research; (5) encourages NIH linkages with and promotes the role of health research and training among international organizations, development banks, bilateral agencies, foundations and other organizations which invest in health research and development at the international level; and (6) disseminates scientific knowledge and technology from the U.S. to countries with transitional and developing economies through conferences, seminars and publications.
